The main difference being in the <strong>S<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sequence \u2013 KS1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Summarise \u2013 KS2<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In KS1, \u2018Explain\u2019; is not one of the content domains, rather it asks children why they have come to a certain conclusion, to explain their preferences, thoughts and opinions about a text.<\/p>\n<p>In KS2, the Explain section covers the additional content domains of 2F, 2G and 2H which are not present in KS1.<\/p>\n<h4>What are Vipers?<\/h4>\n<p>VIPERS is an anagram to aid the recall of the 6 reading domains as part of the UK\u2019s reading curriculum.\u00a0 They are the key areas which we feel children need to know and understand in order to improve their comprehension of texts.<\/p>\n<p>VIPERS stands for<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-195 \" src=\"https:\/\/heptonstall.familyoflearningtrust.co.uk\/hps\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/vipers.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"301\" height=\"439\" srcset=\"https:\/\/heptonstall.familyoflearningtrust.co.uk\/hps\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/vipers.png 360w, https:\/\/heptonstall.familyoflearningtrust.co.uk\/hps\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/vipers-206x300.png 206w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 301px) 100vw, 301px\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The 6 domains focus on the comprehension aspect of reading and not the mechanics: decoding, fluency, prosody etc. As such, VIPERS is not a reading scheme but rather a method of ensuring that teachers ask, and students are familiar with, a range of questions.
